Mr Andrew Wood

Chief Operating Officer

Wood, Andrew Wood, Andrew

Mr Wood joined the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in November 2007 as the Chief Operating Officer. His portfolio includes the enabling functions of the:

  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Chief Information Officer
  • National Manager Human Resources
  • National Manager Policy and Governance.

Mr Wood has particular interests in strengthening organisational values and their demonstration in the workplace, and in building the infrastructure and capacity of an organisation.  Both these areas are priorities for the AFP, so that it can continue to successfully respond to the government’s expectations following the growth in AFP’s size and the increase in its complexity over the last decade.

Before joining the AFP, Mr Wood served in Senior Executive roles in the:

  • Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (including responsibility for a range of infrastructure establishment and support services for the Australian Government’s intervention in the Northern Territory to address child abuse)
  • Department of Defence (as Director General Rotary Wing Aviation, responsible for the acquisition and through-life sustainment of the Army and Navy helicopter capabilities, including support to domestic and overseas deployments)
  • Department of Health and Aged Care (heading up Branches including Internal Audit, Parliamentary and Public Affairs, and People Strategy).

Mr Wood also had a number of non-Senior Executive roles in the Departments of Health and Social Security, and in Comcare Australia, since first joining the Australian Public Service in 1982.

Mr Wood was born in Maleny Queensland, grew up in Canberra, and is married with two school-age sons.
