Director, Australian High Tech Crime Centre (AHTCC)

Mr James McCormack commenced as the Director of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre on 16 October 2007 having previously undertaken a range of defence, diplomatic and communications roles in Australia and overseas.

The AHTCC’s role is to:

  • provide a coordinated national approach to combating high tech crimes of a serious, complex and multi-jurisdictional nature generally beyond the capability of one jurisdiction;
  • assist in improving the capacity of all participating jurisdictions to deal with e-crime matters; and
  • support efforts to protect the National Information Infrastructure.

James has over 25 years experience in Defence, Foreign Affairs and Communications portfolios. His experience spans military operations,  diplomacy and telecommunications. Most recently, James was Executive Director of BroadbandNow and prior to that General Manager Broadband Development with the Australian Government Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts. James has represented the Australian Government in diplomatic postings in Malaysia, Cambodia, Solomon Islands and as a Peace Monitoring Group negotiator in Bougainville.

James has postgraduate qualifications in public policy, business and applied science. A former naval officer, James remains an active reservist responsible for the Navy’s Professional Studies Program.
