Operational Support Unit (OSU)
Specialist Operational Support Team - (SOST)
SOST provide advice and resources in regards to AFP missions, the Operational Response Team Units, special events and Protection operations. The Team provides specialised equipment and trained members to carry out these operations. The SOST team is made up of both sworn and unsworn members who have high skill sets and an extensive background in carrying out various operations. SOST members maintain all equipment at high level of readiness and availability to ensure they can respond to AFP operational demands.
Marksmen Team
This component of the Operational Response Group (ORG) is designed to provide advanced support to the Operational Response Units (ORU) through the application of advanced weapons systems and to broader AFP surveillance operations. Organisationally positioned within the Operational Support Unit members will be embedded in ORUs and will also be expected to support normal operations.
These members will also be engaged in the research and development of relevant practices and technological advances.
Marine Team
The maritime component of the Operational Response Group (ORG) is designed to deliver maritime capabilities to the Operational Response Units through the direct operation of maritime assets and through the development and capability enhancement of ORG maritime operations.
Communications Team
The communications component of the Operational Response Group (ORG) is designed to provide technical and communication operator support to the Operational Response Units (ORUs) through the application of advanced technical skills with communications equipment and/or the operations of communications equipment. Organisationally positioned within the Operational Support Unit members will be embedded in ORUs and will be expected to support normal operations.
Members of the Communications Team will also be engaged in the research and development of relevant practices and technological advances.
Negotiators
The negotiation component of the Operational Response Group (ORG) is designed to provide standard negotiator capabilities to support the activities of the Operational Response Units. Organisationally positioned within the Operational Support Unit members will be embedded in ORUs and will be expected to support normal operations.
