Norfolk Island
Policing
Three Australian Federal Police (AFP) members, and locally employed special members, provide police and ancillary services to Norfolk Island in accordance with an arrangement between the Commonwealth and the Norfolk Island Administration.
Policing on Norfolk Island involves a diverse range of tasks including, traffic enforcement, motor vehicle accident investigations and criminal investigations including arson and assaults.
Location
Norfolk Island (area: 34.5 sq km) lies in the South Pacific, about 1,400km east of Brisbane. The territory includes the uninhabited islands of Phillip and Nepean (7km and 1km south of the main island).
The population consists of Islanders such as Pitcairn/Bounty descendants and mainlanders (originally from Australia, New Zealand and Britain). The right of residence on Norfolk Island is strictly controlled.
Climate
The climate is subtropical and experiences mild temperatures with little seasonal variation.
