Release Date: Sunday, February 07 2010, 12:00 AM
With a need to assist in the world wide war on drugs the AFP sent their best to Cambodia earlier this year for the destruction of close to 15 tonnes of pre-cursor material.
On the Streets the safrole oil had a potential value of up to six billion dollars when manufactured into MDMA or Ecstasy.
The AFP's SRATS teams had the job of overseeing the burn taking along some new technology which would lessen the impact of the burn on the environment.
With the assistance of the Cambodian government the team worked around the clock over a week to destroy all the pre-cursor delivered to the site in Battambang.
The event kicked off with a public ceremonial burn attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Australian ambassador.
