October 1999 - Anniversary issue
On February 13, 1978, a bomb exploded outside Sydney's Hilton Hotel, killing two people and injuring nine others.
Although the concept of a Commonwealth law enforcement agency had been raised several times before this, it was the Hilton Hotel bombing that finally led to the formation of the Australian Federal Police on October 19, 1979.
This year, the AFP celebrates its 20th Anniversary and recognises both the formative past and a future evironment in which technology will play an increasingly large role.
