AFP donates IT equipment to college
10 December 2004
The AFP donated decommissioned, high-tech IT networking equipment to the Canberra College on December 10, 2004 in a presentation from ACT Policing's South District head, Detective Superintendent Mick Kilfoyle to the college principal Barry Woolacott. The Canberra College will use the donated AFP CISCO equipment in its Year 11 and 12 Cisco Certified Associated Network (CCNA) classes, giving its IT students the practical opportunity to learn from a type of equipment currently in use around the world. Det Supt Kilfoyle said the equipment had formed the core of the AFP IT network and was replaced by technology that allowed a necessary increase in the volume of AFP IT traffic.
"The AFP hopes that this equipment will enable the Canberra College to set up a well-equipped training lab for the CCNA course and as a result, produce high quality IT trained students who can serve the Canberra community in the coming years," Det Sup. Kilfoyle said.
