Operation Halite multi-agency action

4 November 2004

A multi-agency approach to address Griffith residents' concerns about abandoned vehicles, stolen property, burglaries and illegal drugs was mounted on Novermber 4, 2004. Under the Operation Halite volume crime strategy, ACT Government agency representatives accompanied by uniformed and plainclothes police began their operation shortly before 7am. Disability, Housing and Community Services, ACT Rangers, Corrective Services, Motor Registry vehicle inspectors and AFP Protective Service members participated in the coordinated approach targeting abandoned and unregistered vehicles, outstanding warrants and public disorder issues. The operation was significant in that there was a high level of co-operation from government departments and agencies with police, marking a whole-of-government strategy in the targeting of criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.
