Aranda residents BBQ and join with Police and Emergency Services
October 2005
More than 100 residents of Aranda recently met up with local police at a Youth Community Alliance (YCA) meet-and-greet barbeque.
Under the auspices of the local Aranda-Cook Neighbourhood Watch, invitations to the October 16 barbeque were extended to police as well as community fire units, including the Fire Brigade and Friends of Aranda Bushland group.
The barbeque was the first in a series of events planned for Aranda over the coming months as part of the YCA project. Every resident of Aranda is welcome to attend these occasions when they are held.
ACT Policing’s Crime Prevention team member Constable Evan Roberts said the BBQ was a great success.
“I want to record a particular thank you to the police volunteers at the barbeque whose efforts freed up police and firefighters to help the locals explore the fire truck and, for the brave, to climb into the back of the police ‘caged’ vehicle,” Const Roberts said.
Local Aranda-Cook Neighbourhood Watch coordinator Richard Lansdowne said the day was a great success for police and community partnership building.
“Many people commented to me how much they enjoyed meeting each other and seeing the police and fire brigade equipment and officers. Other people really appreciated the chance to meet neighbours,” he said.
Mr Lansdowne highlighted the efforts of police and volunteers who made the event such a success, while local children also spoke highly of the day.
Keep an eye out for future social events in the Aranda area.
