A new Purchase Agreement for ACT Policing
A new Purchasing Agreement for the ACT has been co-signed by the Commissioner, the ACT Minister for Police and Emergency Services Simon Corbell and the ACT Chief Police Officer (CPO) Mike Phelan.
The annual agreement includes 34 specific performance measures by which ACT Policing’s service to the community is assessed, including such areas as crime levels, response times, public confidence and road safety.
During the ceremony conducted at the ACT Legislative Assembly, Mr Corbell paid tribute to the high levels of service delivery provided by the AFP to the territory, and complimented ACT Policing on its across-the-board improvements in a number of key areas.
"I'm delighted to join with Commissioner Keelty and ACT CPO Mike Phelan to sign a new purchase agreement for policing services, which will see ACT Policing continue to provide exceptional service to the ACT," Mr Corbell said.
The agreement follows an intensive review of policing services to the ACT which concluded in 2006.
As is now established practice, the Minister used his discretionary powers to issue a series of annual directives to ACT Policing. These now include:
- Further increasing police response time capability;
- Increasing police visibility in the community;
- Implementing measures to improve road safety in the ACT;
- Working with criminal justice agencies to achieve better outcomes for victims of crime;
- Working toward a further improvement in perceptions of public safety in the community, with the development of an online reporting and information presence.
