Theodore fatal shooting
Mike Jefferies 2CC interview with Deputy Chief Police Officer Commander Shane Connelly
9 November 2007
Mike Jefferies: Commander Shane Connelly, Deputy Police Officer in charge of investigations, Commander Connelly good morning.
Shane Connelly: Good morning Mike, how are you?
Mike Jefferies: I'm very well thank you. So what is the latest here?
Shane Connelly: Look Mike obviously people are well aware now that we responded to a call in Theodore yesterday afternoon and a male person was found deceased at that scene. Subsequently we've been working with NSW Police, Queanbeyan local area command and another male person was located in the Michelago area also deceased. Our detectives have been working on this pretty much non-stop with Queanbeyan detectives overnight. Post-mortems will be taking place in the next day or so. I want to stress that the matter is over, from what we've been able to ascertain to date and that there is no risk to the public, and that the investigation is proceeding well and will be going before the Coroner in both states.
Mike Jefferies: Do you have any idea, or can you tell me what the motive was for this?
Shane Connelly: Look I can't, I think this is one of those terrible family tragedies Mike, but until the investigation is completed from both NSW perspective and ACT's perspective it would be premature to say that. What I can say is that once again, both NSW Police and ACT Policing have been working very well on this together, they always work well together, they're two good organisations, and the matter is proceeding very well and progressing positively.
Mike Jefferies: So it's over you say. You're not looking to the public now?
Shane Connelly: Oh no, not over from that perspective. We'll be conducting extensive inquiries over the next few weeks in relation to this matter, to try and ascertain exactly what happened. But what I'm saying is that we don't believe there is any threat posed from this event to the public.
Mike Jefferies: I understand that but are you still looking to the public to provide assistance in this?
Shane Connelly: Oh absolutely. We will be looking for witnesses throughout the area, so will NSW Police. We would always go to the public, anyone who saw anything or was in the area, noticed anything before or after the event that may assist us we would be appreciative if they would call us on Crime Stoppers.
Mike Jefferies: Commander thank you for your time this morning.
Shane Connelly: Thank you very much Mike.
Mike Jefferies: Commander Shane Connelly, Deputy Police Officer in charge of investigations.
