Bold burglar strikes in Lyneham
Monday, 10 November 2003
A burglar with an eye for fine jewellery is believed responsible for a Lyneham break-in as the victims were farewelling guests from their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday (November 9).
The offender struck in a 10-minute period in which the house was unattended at about 4.30pm.
He fled with a quantity of jewellery worth $20 000 after being confronted by a female resident who had seen him inside the premises.
ACT Policing investigators have described the offender as being in his late teens to early 20s, of slightly darker light olive complexion with a thin, clean-shaven face.
At the time of the offence he was wearing a baseball cap described as dirty blue with red on top, a long-sleeved blue-grey V-neck shirt, dark three-quarter-length trousers, possibly grey; and dirty sneakers. He was well-spoken with an Australian accent and was carrying a mobile phone.
Investigators are appealing for assistance from anyone in Lyneham who may have seen a man acting suspiciously and/or knows anything about the burglary to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
