Keen police eyes spot stolen car
Monday, 08 December 2003
The keen eyes of ACT Policing are credited with the arrest of an 18-year-old man in Greenway over the weekend charged with riding in a vehicle without authority and related offences.
In the early hours of Saturday, two young men attracted attention to themselves by driving into the area of the Tuggeranong Town Centre where they stopped their vehicle and allegedly participated in a verbal altercation with a group of young people who were walking by the roadside.
Tuggeranong police patrols subsequently arrived to investigate.
As police were interviewing the suspects, they observed the vehicle's motor was still running despite there being no key in the ignition.
The steering column had also been damaged, the under wires were exposed and a rear quarter-vent window was smashed.
Further enquiries were conducted and it was revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen on December 5.
Subsequently an 18-year-old male was taken to the City Watch House and he will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
Police enquiries are continuing in relation to the theft of the car and related offences.
