Attempted theft ends in Civic arrest

ACT Policing yesterday apprehended a man after a disturbance in a Civic liquor store, where the alleged offender had been attempting to steal bottles of spirits.

The man had entered the store around 12.30pm and had been confronted by a staff member as he allegedly attempted the theft.

To effect his escape, the alleged offender threw the staff member against a display stand, causing glass breakage and an injury to the victim’s hand. The alleged offender then attempted to escape a second time, and was again confronted.

Police arrived promptly and arrested the alleged offender, who was charged with robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The alleged offender will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
