Coach to be extradited for historical sex offence

ACT Policing will extradite a 65-year-old man to the ACT over the weekend to face a charge of an act of indecency against a young person.

Police will allege that the man committed the offence against the victim in the early 1990s whilst in a role as a junior cricket coach in the ACT.

The offences allegedly occurred in Canberra however, the male victim is now aged 30 and resides interstate.

An extradition order was granted today in the Berri Magistrates Court, in South Australia’s Riverland district.

Two ACTP detectives with the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) travelled to South Australia to apply for extradition. The detectives will accompany the alleged offender to Canberra where he is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
