Man arrested for alleged forced confinement

Friday, 18 July 2008

ACT Policing’s Territory Investigation Group has arrested a 26-year-old man on forcible confinement and assault offences today (July 18).

Police arrested the man after a four day search for an 18-year-old Evatt woman he is alleged to have held captive.

The woman went missing on Sunday night after meeting the alleged offender in Evatt. Her family reported her missing to police on Tuesday.

Police will allege the woman was held against her will and assaulted by the offender over a four day period. They will also allege he drove the woman into bushland to avoid detection.

The police investigation led to the man’s arrest in Giralang about noon today after the woman was able to make a phone call to police.

The alleged offender will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (July 19) charged with forcible confinement and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
