ACT Policing media release
Pedestrian struck; witnesses sought
Friday, 29 August 2008
ACT Policing is investigating a collision on London Circuit, Civic around 3am today (August 29) when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian, a 22-year-old man, was conveyed to Calvary Hospital with minor injuries.
The 18-year-old female driver of the vehicle was subjected to a roadside screening test and returned a negative result. Charges against the driver are still to be decided.
Sgt Greg Lester, who leads one of ACT Policing’s City Beats teams, said that this incident should serve as a warning to those people who gather outside Canberra’s nightclubs in the early hours of the morning.
“Working through the night and into the early hours, our Beats teams constantly have to deal with those situations where crowds outside nightclubs spill off the footpath and onto the roadway; and yet many of these people are oblivious to the danger in which this places them,” Sgt Lester said.
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision outside Mooseheads nightclub early this morning and who have not yet spoken to police, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
