Police investigate early morning crash

Saturday, 19 July 2008

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) are investigating a single-vehicle crash on Lanyon Drive, Hume earlier today (July 19).

Investigators were called to the Jerrabomberra Creek Bridge shortly after 7am to find a badly-damaged Ford Falcon in the creek bed below.

Police believe the vehicle was travelling west on Lanyon Drive when it left the roadway just before the bridge, clearing the creek and impacting with the creek bed on the opposite side.

The male driver managed to free himself from the wreckage and flagged down a passing motorist for help. The passenger – a 34-year-old male – was trapped in the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes before being freed. He was taken to The Canberra Hospital (TCH) with serious injuries. The driver’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

ACT Policing and NSW Police closed parts of Lanyon Drive for approximately three hours to allow investigators to examine the scene.

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
