Tip-off leads to Wanniassa burglary arrests
Thursday, 03 July 2008
A tip-off from a member of the public has led police to the swift apprehension of three juveniles for the alleged burglary of a Wanniassa home this afternoon (July 2).
At about 2:30pm police responded to a report from an attentive neighbour after he saw three alleged male offenders breaking into a house in Phelan Place, Wanniassa.
Within minutes police stopped and apprehended three juveniles in Rylah Place, Wanniassa. Two of the alleged male offenders are aged 13 while the third is 12. Police are still investigating the involvement of one of the juveniles while the two others are to be charged with aggravated burglary and theft.
Acting Superintendent Jeff Knight praised the vigilance of the general public in reporting the incident so promptly.
"This is another terrific example of a member of the public seeing something that looked out of place and reporting it to police immediately," Acting Supt Knight said.
"On this occasion, quick thinking has allowed us to immediately dispatch patrols in the area, within seconds of the incident.
"I would encourage the community to report any suspicious activity to police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Acting Supt Knight said.
