Witnesses sought to daylight assault

Monday, 21 July 2008

ACT Policing is seeking public assistance to identify a man who assaulted a female in Reid shortly before 10am yesterday Sunday, July 20.

The female victim has told police she was walking along Limestone Avenue near Allambie Street around 9.45am, when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown male on a pushbike.

The victim managed to break free from the offender’s grasp and call police. She was not injured during the incident.

The offender is described as in his 20s, approximately 185cm (6’1”) tall, slim but muscular build with a long mousy / dark blond goatee beard. He was dressed in black-coloured clothing including a black-coloured hood over his head.

His bike is described as a black-coloured mountain bike with no visible brand. Police believe the male may have been riding around Ainslie Avenue just prior to the incident.

Police would urge anyone who may know the identity of the male or may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au

Police would also encourage members of the general public to be vigilant about their personal security including maintaining an awareness of their surroundings, travelling in the company of others and walking in open and well-lit areas.
