Man seriously injured in single vehicle collision

ACT Policing is investigating the circumstances surrounding a single vehicle collision in Downer in the early hours of this morning (June 13).
Police responded to the collision on Bradfield Street about 12.20am, where a Subaru sedan had left the road and collided with a fence. It is understood a number of nearby neighbours contacted police and emergency services after being woken by the collision.
The 25-year-old male driver suffered very serious injuries after part of the steel mesh fence pierced the driver's side door and entered his abdomen. He was cut from the vehicle by ACT Fire Brigade and transported to The Canberra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The 27-year-old male passenger received minor injuries and was assessed by ACT Ambulance at the scene of the collision. He is assisting members of the Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) with their ongoing investigation.
