AFP and Monash University sign agreement
Monday, 25 August 2008
Australian Federal Police (AFP) members will gain credit from their AFP College studies towards courses at Monash University under an agreement signed today.
This is the second agreement the AFP has undertaken with the higher education sector, following a similar arrangement with Charles Sturt University last November, and illustrates the AFP’s efforts to provide educational excellence as part of the ongoing training of its officers.
AFP College Manager Mark McIntyre said this MoA would add to the qualifications pathways available for AFP officers.
“Members at various stages of their AFP career will have access to more learning opportunities through universities and such a framework will support the AFP’s commitment to developing future leaders,” Superintendant McIntyre said.
“The collaboration represents a great opportunity for AFP members looking to further their education as well as enhancing the capabilities of the organisation,” he added.
The agreement will incorporate credit acknowledgement packages for courses undertaken at the police college assisting with postgraduate studies in areas such as counter terrorism and international relations based on relevant programs completed at the AFP College.
Superintendant McIntyre said university courses like this were specifically designed to enhance AFP members’ knowledge by building on existing skills, training and professional experience.
“This agreement illustrates an important collaboration between the AFP the Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training sector.”
