AFP hosts national police golf championships

Friday, 07 March 2008

More than 200 police officers from across the country are coming to Canberra this weekend to tee-off in the 2008 Australian Police Golf Championships.

The Australian Federal Police (ACT Region) Golf Club is hosting the annual tournament, which begins on Sunday with a reception at the Ainslie Function Centre.

Club patron AFP Commissioner Mick Keelty will welcome participants before the real business of the week gets underway with four days of competitive golf at some of the best courses in the Canberra region.

Eighteen-hole stroke events will be held on Monday at the Gold Creek Country Club, Tuesday at Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club and Thursday at Royal Canberra Golf Club before heading to the Queanbeyan Golf Club on Friday for a four-ball event.

The week's activities will wind up on Friday night with a formal dinner and presentation at the Ainslie Function Centre.

The championships are held in different states each year, with next year's event to be hosted by Tasmania Police.

Further information about the championships can found at the website http://www.apgc.org.au/index.htm
