Committee of Privileges clears AFP Commissioner
Wednesday, 17 September 2008
AFP Commissioner Mick Keelty has been cleared by the Privileges Committee of giving false or misleading evidence to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee in respect of his knowledge of whether Mamdouh Habib had been taken to Egypt.
On 28 August the Senate endorsed the finding at paragraph 1.31 of the 133rd report of the Committee of Privileges: “The committee concludes that neither Commissioner Keelty nor (….) knowingly gave false or misleading evidence to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee in respect of their knowledge of whether Mr Mamdouh Habib had been taken to Egypt. The committee therefore finds that no contempt was committed in this regard.”
