Multi-agency Joint Organised Crime Group formalised

Wednesday, 01 July 2009

NSW State Crime Command, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, the Australian Crime Commission (ACC), and the NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC) have today formalised the establishment of the Joint Organised Crime Group (JOCG) as part of a continued multi-agency effort to target organised and illegal drug crime.

The collaborative efforts and collective powers of each agency will be utilised to focus on all groups associated with organised drug importation and distribution within New South Wales.

The Joint Organised Crime Group is a key multi-agency response to target organised and illegal drug crime in New South Wales and will include officers from the NSW State Crime Command, the AFP, Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, the ACC and the NSWCC.

Joint Organised Crime Commander Superintendent Peter Baker said, “The Joint Organised Crime Group will enable a more effective response to the changing nature of crime.”

“It allows a more flexible investigative response to intelligence received in relation to the activities of organised crime groups and of individuals involved in organised crime.”

“The seizure and confiscation of proceeds of crime will continue to be a key strategy of the group.”
