Victorian man charged with possessing child abuse images

Australian Federal Police (AFP) today arrested and charged a 34-year-old man from Edithvale, Victoria with possession of child exploitation material.
A warrant was executed at the 34-year-old man’s Edithvale residence by the AFP’s Child Protection Operations Team.
During the execution of the search warrant, approximately 16,000 images were located and seized.
Police will allege in court that the man possessed child abuse images on his computer.
The man was charged with possessing child pornography, contrary to Section 70(1) of the Crimes Act (Vic) 1958 and using a carriage service to access child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).
He was remanded in custody to reappear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 22 May.
The maximum penalty for these offences is 10 years imprisonment.
