From terrorism to corporate crime and people smuggling to drug trafficking, AFP Federal Agents prevent and detect crimes against Commonwealth law, work that often extends beyond state and national borders. Being a Federal Agent involves a mix of research and liaison to gather and share information with other law enforcement agencies, patient investigative work to prepare evidence, and bursts of intense activity culminating in arrests and court processes. The AFP is looking for people with a variety of skills and experience to work in this high tech and intelligence-led environment. After five months live-in training in Canberra Federal Agents may be involved in work such as:
- counter terrorism
- airport security
- organised crime
- people smuggling
- sexual servitude
- international drug trafficking
- major corporate crime
- major fraud and identity theft
- e-crime
- environmental crime
- family law
- missing persons.
Career options include working in regional offices in every Australian state and territory, in the national office in Canberra or in overseas liaison roles in more than 25 countries. As a Federal Agent, you can also take part in international capacity building, monitoring and peacekeeping missions.
