Indigenous Australians
The Australian Federal Police values diversity and is committed to promoting Indigenous Affairs internally and externally through community engagement practices. To facilitate these outcomes, the AFP has in place some major strategies to guide the recruitment, retention, communication and culture initiatives. This is an ongoing process and the AFP is continuing to develop new initiatives to improve the employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the AFP.
The Indigenous Employment Strategy has been developed to ensure a coordinated approach to Indigenous recruitment and retention and to improve our Indigenous community engagement practices.
The Reconciliation Action Plan outlines our commitment to reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians through several key areas including employment, local policing, cultural awareness, community involvement, cross agency involvement and education.
