Forensic and Data Centres
The Australian Federal Police's Forensic and Data Centres provides a range of standard and innovative scientific services to support:
- national and international operations
- regional capacity building, and
- community policing in the Australian Capital Territory,
through world-class service delivery that is fault free, timely, impartial, and customer focussed.
The portfolio is broadly divided into Forensic Operations, the Data Centres incorporating the Australian Bomb Data Centre, the Australian Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Data Centre and Forensic Drug Support; and a Business Support area.
Services
Forensic Operations comprises the specialist areas of Crime Scenes, Laboratory Services, Physical Sciences and Electronic Evidence. Specialist services include:

- footwear and tyre mark comparison
- firearms identification
- biological criminalistics
- chemical criminalistics

- forensic imaging

- disaster victim identification.
The Australian Bomb Data Centre and the Australian Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Data Centre collect, collate, analyse and disseminate information regarding the unlawful use of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives domestically and internationally. Forensic Drug Support coordinates the scientific analysis of illicit drug samples and provides scientific advice to the Australian Illicit Drug Intelligence Program.
