Protective Security
The AFP helps protect the lives and property of Australians by providing highly-trained people at key locations to deter criminal activity, including terrorism.
Where incidents occur, the AFP has the ability to respond quickly with rapid deployment teams.

Security of people and property
The AFP provides security for people and property throughout Australia, including:
- the Governor-General;
- the Prime Minister and other ministers;
- diplomats and foreign officials;
- defence establishments;
- sensitive nuclear storage facilities and
- major galleries and museums.
Witness protection
The AFP administers the National Witness Protection Program, which protects the safety of witnesses and their families who are at risk because of giving evidence in certain criminal matters.
When required, it also provides assistance to the Family Court of Australia.
Special events
The AFP helps provide security at major events, such as the 2006 Commonwealth Games, the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in 2002.

The Australian Federal Police Protective Service provides a comprehensive range of quality security services for government agencies.
