Extensive study and experience has shown that the community, as well as government organisations and private enterprise, needs to be informed about the correct procedure for dealing with bomb threats, and have the training to respond appropriately.
The Australian Bomb Data Centre Bomb Safety Awareness Kit comprises of procedures and recommendations derived from the experiences of national and international police, security and law enforcement agencies.
The kit is designed to be used by security managers in the formulation of in-house policies to deal with bomb threats and strategies to counter the threat. It also examines types of threats, briefly describes improvised explosive devices (bombs) and explains liaison with police in the event a bomb threat is received.
The Bomb Safety Awareness Kit should be used as part of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) plan. It contains advice which, given due consideration and effective implementation, should result in increased protection for an organisation's assets, as well as the people and structures which house them.
