The Australian Federal Police's Forensic and Data Centres provide a range of standard and innovative scientific services to support:
- national and international operations
- regional capacity building
- community policing in the Australian Capital Territory
The centres provide world-class service delivery that is timely, impartial, and customer focused.
The portfolio is broadly divided into Forensic Operations, the Data Centres (incorporating the Australian Bomb Data Centre, the Australian Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Data Centre and the Australian Illicit Drug Data Centre) and a Business Support area.
Forensic Operations
Forensic Operations comprises the specialist areas of Crime Scene Sciences Criminalistics and Identification Sciences, and Electronic Evidence. Specialist services include:

Forensic Operations is accredited to International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005. Details of the scope of accreditation held by the AFP can be obtained from the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia.
Data Centres
The Australian Bomb Data Centre, the Australian Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Data Centre collect, collate, analyse and disseminate information regarding the unlawful use of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives domestically and internationally. The Australian Illicit Drug Data Centre coordinates the scientific analysis of illicit drug samples and provides scientific advice to Australian law enforcement agencies.
