The ACT Community Protection Medal is awarded for sustained, distinguished or outstanding service to the ACT community through involvement in the ACT Emergency Services.

The ACT Community Protection Medal is coordinated by the ACT Government, Justice and Community Safety Directorate (JaCS). This medal is awarded to eligible employees who have given sustained distinguished or outstanding service to the ACT Community through their involvement with their agency. For AFP employees, their sustained distinguished or outstanding service must be overwhelmingly related to their duties undertaking or in direct support of ACT Policing.

The ACT Community Protection Medal obverse features the arms of the City of Canberra. The reverse features a stylized sprig of gum leaves and nuts at the top left above the text ‘FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE’. Below the text is a raised rectangular plinth for engraving of the recipient’s name. The medal is fitted with a straight bar suspender, with a floreate foot attached to the top of the medal. Suspension is via a ribbon of maroon, with five equal central stripes of dark blue, gold, white, gold, dark blue; the maroon represents service and sacrifice, while dark blue, gold and white are the heraldic colours of the ACT.

The ACT Chief Police Officer calls for nominations annually. Completed nomination forms for this medal must be provided to the Chief Police Officer via CPOACT@afp.gov.au.
