The National Medal recognises 15 years of diligent uniformed service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations that risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster.
The National Medal recognises long service by operational members of specified eligible organisations. It was introduced in 1975 and replaced a range of medals available to military and civilian uniformed services for long service and good conduct. Clasps are awarded for each subsequent ten years’ diligent and cumulative service. Recipients can have qualifying time in more than one service.
For AFP employees, this medal is automatically processed for issue by AFP Honours and Awards when all eligibility criteria are met. There is no need to apply.
For former AFP employees, complete the application form and send it to AFP Honours and Awards.
