The Queen’s Police Medal is awarded to police of the Commonwealth for gallantry or distinguished service.
The Queen’s Police Medal is awarded to police members who either performed acts of exceptional courage and skill or exhibited conspicuous devotion to duty. This medal replaced the King's Police and Fire Service Medal. It ceased being awarded to members of Australian police forces in 1989. The last AFP appointee to be awarded this medal was in 1979. It was replaced in Australian Honours System by the Australian Police Medal.
Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal ‘QPM’.
