Commissioner’s Commendation for Brave Conduct

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Brave Conduct was awarded to individuals who have performed in the discharge of their duty an act of bravery of a high order and placed themselves at substantial risk of personal injury.

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Brave Conduct was retired in 2011 following the introduction of the AFP Bravery Medal.

Commissioner’s Commendation for Conspicuous Conduct

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Conspicuous Conduct was awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to duty in circumstances demanding tenacity of a high order.

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Conspicuous Conduct was awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to duty in circumstances demanding tenacity of a high order through the application to their duties, work requirements, mission, operation or role within the AFP.

The award was retired in 2017 and upgraded to the Commissioner’s Medal for Conspicuous Conduct.

Commissioner’s Commendation for Excellence in Overseas Service

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Excellence in Overseas Service was awarded to individuals who displayed excellence in overseas service while undertaking core business and adhering to the corporate values of the AFP.

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Excellence in Overseas Service was awarded to individuals who demonstrated excellence in overseas service whilst undertaking core business and adhering to the corporate values of the AFP through the application to their duties, work requirements, mission, operation, or role within the AFP.

The award was retired in 2018.

Commissioner’s Group Citation for Excellence in Overseas Service

The Commissioner’s Group Citation for Excellence in Overseas Service was awarded to individuals for the display of collective excellence in overseas service whilst undertaking core business and adhering to the corporate values of the AFP.

The Commissioner’s Group Citation for Excellence in Overseas Service was awarded to a group of individuals if they demonstrated collective excellence in overseas service whilst undertaking core business and adhering to the corporate values of the AFP through the application to their duties, work requirements, mission, operation, or role within the AFP. Members of the group involved each received the award.

If in the event an individual was awarded the citation on a further occasion, a new citation with a silver numeral applicable to the issue occasion is awarded.

The award was retired in 2018.

Commissioner’s Commendation for Hazardous Overseas Service

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Hazardous Overseas Service was awarded to individuals for devotion to duty in overseas service while operating in hazardous circumstances and/or environments.

The Commissioner’s Commendation for Hazardous Overseas Service was awarded to individuals who have demonstrated devotion to duty in overseas service whilst operating in hazardous circumstances and/or environments, whilst undertaking core business and adhering to the corporate values of the AFP through the application to their duties, work requirements, mission, operation, or role within the AFP.

The award was retired in 2018. It was replaced with the Commissioner's Commendation for Hazardous Service to encompass all hazardous service, not just overseas.

Commissioner’s Group Citation for Hazardous Overseas Service

The Commissioner’s Group Citation for Hazardous Overseas Service was awarded groups of individuals for the collective display of excellence in overseas service whilst undertaking core business and adhering to the corporate values of the AFP.

The award was retired in 2018 and replaced with the Commissioner's Group Citation for Hazardous Service to encompass all hazardous service, not just overseas.

Following the same criteria as the Commissioner’s Commendation for Hazardous Overseas Service, this award is presented to a team or group who were involved in a joint event. The team or group involved each received the citation.

If in the event a member was awarded the citation on a further occasion, a new citation with a silver numeral applicable to the issue was awarded.

Australian Protective Service Medal

The Australian Protective Service Medal recognises the service of former Australian Protective Service employees.

The Australian Protective Service Medal was awarded to former Australian Protective Service employees who have given a cumulative total of ten years Qualifying service with the Australian Protective Service from 20 October 1984 to 30 June 2004. Service from 1 July 2004 in a protective role is recognised by the AFP Protection Medal.
