NSW man to face court for allegedly threatening a federal parliamentarian

A Greystanes man is expected to appear before Parramatta local court today (14 January, 2026) on a charge of making threats toward a federal parliamentarian.

The AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) team received a report on 16 December, 2025, from the parliamentarian’s office regarding phone calls they had received.

These calls allegedly contained multiple threats to kill the parliamentarian.

The AFP allegedly linked the man, 43, to the calls and a search warrant was executed at a Greystanes home, where police seized electronic devices.

The 43-year-old was issued with a court attendance notice and is expected to appear before Parramatta local court to face a charge of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 414.17(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.

The AFP set up NSI teams in September, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including the targeting of federal parliamentarians.
