Further arrest in relation to $165 million fraud

A 33-year-old Lavender Bay man has been arrested and charged in relation to the alleged conspiracy to defraud the Commonwealth of taxation revenue totaling more than $165 million.

It will be alleged that the man was a former director of the payroll company who continued to manage it during the conspiracy.

The man was arrested following his return to Australia yesterday (Thursday 18 May 2017).

He has been charged with Conspiracy to defraud (causing a loss), contrary to section 135.4(3) of the Criminal Code 1995 and is expected to appear in Central Local Court today (Friday, 19 May).

This arrest brings the total number of people charged in relation to this operation to 10.

The maximum penalty for this offence is 10 years imprisonment.
