Perth man jailed over drugs and gun

This is a joint media release between the Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police Force

A 34-year-old North Perth man has been declared a drug trafficker and jailed for firearm, drugs and property offences, after an investigation by the Western Australia National Anti-Gangs Squad (WA NAGS) into the Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

The man, who is an alleged patched member of the Comanchero, was sentenced on Friday (17 January) to the final charges stemming from an investigation into the gang’s suspected involvement in illicit drug trafficking.

WA NAGS charged the now 34-year-old in early 2017 after finding 37.5 grams of heroin, a handgun, ammunition, other drugs and drug paraphernalia when they searched his North Perth home in late November 2016.

After a trial in the Perth District Court, the man was found guilty on 7 November 2019 of possessing a prohibited drug (heroin) with intent to sell or supply.

He was declared a drug trafficker under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981 (WA) and sentenced to four years and 10 months jail.

On 17 January (2020), he pleaded guilty to the remaining 13 offences – unlicensed possession of a firearm (handgun) in circumstances of aggravation, unlicensed possession of ammunition, six counts of possessing a prohibited drug (various), carried (possessed) an article with intent to cause fear, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment over the handgun and one month behind bars for each of the other 12 offences, all to be served concurrently with the earlier jail term for the heroin dealing.

WA NAGS, which comprises members from the Australian Federal Police, Western Australia Police Force and Australian Taxation Office, targets OMCG involved in the movement of illicit drugs into and within Australia.
