Victorian man charged following counter terrorism warrants

Victoria’s Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) has charged a man following warrants in Melbourne’s north-west and Tatura yesterday.
The 31-year-old man was arrested by Specialist Response Group members at a Ballarat Road, Braybrook, address about 1pm.
The Braybrook man has been charged with one count of collecting or making documents likely to facilitate a terrorist act, contrary to section 101.5(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth) and one count of acts done in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act, contrary to section 101.6(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).
He appeared before a bail justice early this morning and has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a filing hearing today (Sunday, 7 August 2016).
The investigation was conducted by JCTT, comprising officers from the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police.
