WA Man charged with child exploitation offences

This is a joint media release issued by the Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police.

A 30-year-old Roleystone man will appear before the Joondalup Magistrates Court today (29 July 2016) charged with child exploitation offences.

In September 2015, the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) commenced an investigation in response to child exploitation images being posted on the internet

As part of the JACET investigation, detectives executed a search warrant on Friday, 1 July 2016 at a residence in Roleystone where they seized electronic devices.

It will be alleged that the devices belonged to the man and that analysis of the devices identified images of child exploitation material.

The man has been charged with:

  • Possession of Child Exploitation Material; and
  • Use Carriage Service to Distribute Child Exploitation Material.

The JACET is a taskforce which brings together the Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police to combat online child exploitation, as part of a collaborative and coordinated national platform for policing agencies to address the abhorrent activity associated with child exploitation.

The national ThinkUKnow cyber safety education program is focused on preventing children from being groomed or mistreated online. For more information and to book a free cyber safety presentation, visit www.thinkuknow.org.au.
