Brisbane man charged with alleged visa breach

An Afghanistan-born man is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (1 May, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP arrested and charged the man, 31, today (30 April, 2024) after locating him in Brisbane.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa on two occasions this month (April) by failing to comply with visa mandated curfew conditions.

The man has been charged with:

  • Two counts of failing to comply with curfew conditions, contrary to Section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.
