Man charged in Queensland over alleged visa breach

An Afghanistan-born man is scheduled to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (17 May, 2024) for allegedly failing to comply with his visa mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP arrested and charged the man, 31, today (16 May, 2024) at his home in Kingston, after receiving a report of crime on 15 May, 2024.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa on 11 May, 2024, by failing to comply with visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The man has been charged with one count of failing to comply with curfew conditions, contrary to Section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
