AFP tracks down man wanted in three states

A man wanted in three states for multiple offences was arrested in Queensland yesterday (Friday 18 March 2022) after the AFP linked him to a vehicle located near the Gold Coast Airport.

AFP aviation detectives, acting on a request from New South Wales police, identified the vehicle near the airport yesterday and subsequently monitored the man’s movements.

This resulted in Queensland Police Service officers arresting the man this morning and New South Wales Police have commenced extradition proceedings.

The man had five outstanding warrants in New South Wales for offences ranging from assault to breaches of bail. He also had outstanding warrants in Victoria and Western Australia for assaulting police as well as drugs and weapons offences.

AFP Acting Superintendent Josh Kinghorn praised the quick work of officers on the Gold Coast, which resulted in the apprehension of a man wanted on both coasts of Australia.

“The AFP works closely with our state and territory counterparts to ensure that alleged criminals who skip bail have nowhere to hide,” Supt Kinghorn said.

“The AFP will continue to protect law-abiding Australians while maintaining zero tolerance for alleged criminals with outstanding arrest warrants attempting to evade police.

“Our airport teams have been preparing for the return of travellers since the start of the pandemic and are poised to detect and arrest anyone attempting to flee across state borders, especially those seeking to exploit increased domestic air travel.”

The man is expected to face Lismore Bail Court today (19 March).
