Perth man charged with further 14 terrorism offences

A 53-year-old Perth man has appeared before Perth Magistrates Court today (Friday, 30 July 2021), charged with an additional fourteen terrorism offences.

The Western Australia Joint Counter Terrorism Team (WA JCTT) – comprising Australian Federal Police (AFP), Western Australia Police Force and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation – executed a search warrant on the man’s home and vehicle in April 2020 after becoming aware of an online account hosting content that called for acts of politically-motivated violence offshore.

A number of electronic devices were seized for evidentiary purposes and in December 2020 the man was arrested and charged with four counts of advocating terrorism, contrary to section 80.2C of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

Police will allege between April and December 2020, the man uploaded several more videos to the online video-sharing platform.

As a result of reviewing evidence seized during the course of the investigation police identified further grounds to lay an additional 14 charges of advocating terrorism, contrary to section 80.2C of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth)
