QLD man charged over alleged aggressive behaviour on flight to WA

A Queensland man appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today (13 February, 2024) charged with alleged offensive and disorderly behaviour on a flight from Adelaide to Perth.

The man, 46, is alleged to have become physically and verbally aggressive towards fellow passengers and airline staff during the flight yesterday (12 February, 2024).

Police will also allege he caused significant damage to areas on the aircraft including a bathroom and seat tray table.

Airline staff reported the incident to the AFP and AFP officers at Perth Airport responded and escorted the man from the aircraft after its arrival.

The man was interviewed by AFP officers and was later charged with offensive/disorderly behaviour on an aircraft, contrary to section 91.525(1) of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (Cth).

The maximum penalty for the offence is a $15,600 fine.

The man will next appear in court on 23 February, 2024.

AFP Acting Superintendent Shona Davis said the AFP had zero tolerance for disruptive or criminal behaviour on board aircraft or and within airports.

"The safety and wellbeing of all travellers and workers is paramount," A/Supt Davis said.

"Particularly when people are confined during a flight they expect to feel safe and not be subjected to aggressive or violent behaviour.

"The AFP will take action against members of the public whose behaviour risks the safety of fellow passengers or airline staff."
