Australian Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw and eight AFP members have returned to Australia following their respective trips and deployments to the Solomon Islands.

AFP Commissioner Kershaw met with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner Mostyn Mangau and other international partners to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak in the region and the current security situation.

The AFP and partner agencies responded to a request on 25 November 2021 from the Solomon Islands Government to help the RSIPF restore calm in Honiara following civil unrest.

A contingent of AFP members was deployed to the region in November 2021, with eight of those now returning home for a belated Christmas celebration with their families and friends. They arrived at Defence Establishment Fairbairn in Canberra on Saturday, 29 January 2022.

A total of 62 AFP members remain in the Solomon Islands and will continue to support the RSIPF as they peacefully manage the current situation in Honiara.
