Man in WA charged with alleged visa breach

An Iranian-born man appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today (16 February, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa conditions in Western Australia.

The matter was referred to the AFP for investigation yesterday (15 February, 2024). The AFP subsequently arrested and charged the man, 29, after locating him in Perth.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa by failing to comply with a reporting requirement.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a requirement of the monitoring conditions, contrary to section 76B of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.

The man is next expected to appear in court on 22 March, 2024.
