Woman charged following stabbing at correctional facility
Detectives from the Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) have charged a woman following a stabbing at a correctional facility in Ravenhall last month.
Police were called to the facility on Friday, 30 October following a report of an altercation between two female inmates.
A 27-year-old woman was subsequently conveyed to hospital with a non-life threatening hand injury.
Yesterday, detectives charged a 27-year-old woman with Engaging in a Terrorist Act contrary to Section 101.1 of the Criminal Code (Cth).
She will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Police will continue to work closely with Corrections Victoria in relation to this matter.
Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police would like to reassure the community that the threat has been contained and there is no on-going risk to the broader community posed by this individual.
Victoria has well established and cooperative counter terrorism and emergency management plans in place and constantly monitor and assess our preparedness to respond to a range of incidents.
