Our work in Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste Police Development Program

Timor-Leste

In Timor-Leste we lead the Timor-Leste Police Development Program (TLPDP) with support from Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We work with the Policia Nacional de Timor-Leste (PNTL) to improve security, stability and socio-economic development in the region.

The TLPDP aims to support the PNTL to deliver skilled and professional policing services, which effectively respond to community needs and contribute to a stable and secure Timor-Leste. This includes support with:

  • operational command, maritime and border security
  • community policing – including training, management, development and women and children’s safety
  • enhancing police capability – including policing information database support, and support in investigations, intelligence, cyber, forensics support, and corporate services.

AFP staff are based in Dili, Timor-Leste.

Deploying internationally is a great way to share your policing experience. It provides the opportunity to reflect on how you have done things in the past and use those lessons to improve policing skills and abilities among our closest neighbours.
